RCFE is the abbreviation for Residential Care Facility for the Elderly. It is also known as a Board and Care Home, Assisted Living, Residential Care Home, and Group Home.

What kind of care do you provide?

We assist the elderly with all activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, toileting, assistance with medication, etc. Please see the Services tab for more details.

Do you accept residents with pets?

While we do have a pet therapist here, Plowshare, we don’t allow residents to move-in with their pets. That includes cat and dogs.

What is sundowning?

Accepted Answer

Sundowning is a dementia related symptom. It refers to increased agitation, confusion, and hyperactivity that begins in the late afternoon and builds throughout the evening. Sundowning can be very hard on loved ones as most sundowning usually worsens at night and as the disease progresses.

What is Memory Care? Do you offer it?

Memory care is a specialized type of care for residents with memory-loss conditions often associated with Alzheimer’s & Dementia. These residents need a higher level of supervision and assistance. We love being involved by encouraging activities conducive to building memory, such as scrabble, word puzzles, match games, and much more. With our audible door alarms, hands-on approach, and decades of experience, our residents benefit from all that we have to offer. Although we provide memory care to our residents, we do not accept residents who exhibit aggressive, combative, or violent behaviors.

Do you accept residents under Hospice Care?

Yes, we do. We are licensed under the Department of Social Services to accept up to 2 residents under Hospice Care.

Do you provide transportation?

Do you provide Skilled Nursing?

No, we are not a medical facility and are not licensed to provide skilled nursing. However, we do work hand in hand with Mobile Physicians, Nurses, Hospice Agencies and Home Health. These medical professionals come into our home and provide medical care to your loved one.

Are daily showers really good for the elderly?

This is our philosophy: Do you take daily showers? Do you like to be clean? That is the reason we give our residents the opportunity to take daily showers. To combat dry skin, we assist our residents in being well hydrated with plenty of water, and we also give our residents 2 daily moisturizing treatments. PS: There is no such things as “Old-people smell”. If you’ve ever encountered that, it’s because of lack of cleanliness.

Do you accept Medicare Supplement as payment, or do you take SSI?

No, our facility does not accept Medicare Supplement directly as a form of payment, but Long Term Care Insurance Benefits will reimburse some of the cost. We don’t take SSI.

Question 14

What is the minimum age you can accept?

Accepted Answer

60 years of age is our minimum age we can accept, however with special criteria being met, the Department of Social Services will allow even a younger person. Please call us if you have further questions on this.

Question 15

Is it legal for a RCFE to ask for 30-60 days notice to vacate?

Accepted Answer

It is only legal to ask for 30-60 days notice for the rent part, not for the care part. If the Assisted Living Facility or Board & Cares did not separate the rental cost VS the care cost, it is not legal to ask for a blanket notice to vacate.
