Sun Mar Nursing Center

I recently brought my dad to Sun Mar Nursing Center, where he stayed for a couple of months. We chose Sun Mar again because of the wonderful experience we had last year when my mom was there, and once again, they did not disappoint me. The level of care, compassion, and professionalism shown by everyone at Sun Mar is truly remarkable. No matter the situation, their staff consistently go above and beyond for their patients. Like any place, there were some issues along the way, but what stood out most was how promptly and effectively they handled everything. Every issue was addressed and resolved in a timely and caring manner, and my dad's needs were always their top priority. From the nurses and physical therapists to the staff who assisted with meals, bathing, and medication, every single person played an important role in my dad's recovery. Their teamwork and dedication made such a difference. I'd especially like to acknowledge Jun, Julie, Andy, Brandon, Jasper, Michael, Dennis, Christine, Mark, Stephanie, Lisa, Lucy, Celina, Cindy, Sarah, Angie, Jaime, Ben, Mark, Ester, Navi, Balgit, Shainah,( I am sure I am forgetting alot of names…) for their kindness, responsiveness, and personal attention throughout my dad's stay. I'll never forget how accommodating Jun was when I reached out on short notice. I think it was 24 hours before we needed to transfer my dad. He took care of everything quickly and efficiently, ensuring my dad could be admitted without delay. That kind of compassion and professionalism is rare, and I truly appreciate it so much!! Thank you to everyone at Sun Mar Nursing Center for your care, patience, and commitment. You made a difficult time much easier for our family, and we will continue to recommend Sun Mar to anyone in need of quality care for their loved ones.

My maternal and paternal grandparents for the past few years (approximately 8 years) have been in and out of this facility due to deteriorating health conditions. This facility has become like family and almost a second home with the number of visits we have frequented this place. Our family has complete trust in the staffs capability to care for the sick and elderly and attend to my Korean speaking grandparents. I write this review from someone experienced in healthcare settings and understand the requirements of standard of care for each patient. I assume everyone has different encounters with the staff and will have differing opinions. My experience so far has been quite positive. I will not judge a facility based on one or two bad experiences but on a long term consistent care that has shown through action. My grandparents have always improved greatly before discharge and that shows their determination to aid the patient into the path of recovery. Food: Mostly Korean food, taste varies depending on the menu. The menu is posted by the kitchen wall so I am able to see what my grandparents will be having. Snacks and coffee are given in between meals. Parking: sufficient, it does get packed during late morning and lunch and street parking is advised. I visit after work so I have never had trouble finding a spot. Cleanliness: Fairly Decent. Yes, there are signs of wear and tear but OSHA standards are visible. Activities: there is an activity room and there is a set schedule with events throughout the day. My paternal grandmother enjoys bingo, word search, and singing along to hymn songs. Religion: Different churches from different denominations come by and do worship and readings. Our family being catholic appreciate Sunday mass provided by the local church. Physical Therapy: PT is done regularly depending on the set schedule, it has allowed my grandmother to get up after a severe back surgery. The curriculum and PT staff are quite excellent and notable strength of this facility. My grandmother whines about doing sets but they keep encouraging her at her own pace. Hair cut: a volunteer comes in and cuts patients hair. Quite thankful to take care of my grandmother's messy bed hair. Seeing how my grandparents have complete faith in the facility gave us a peace of mind, they never once complained about their stay. And that is why we keep bringing them back to Sun Mar. It's a place for the sick and elderly to recover so that they may go back home with their loved ones.

My mom's health condition is a roller coaster but the amazing quality of care at Sun Mar is remarkably consistent and dependable. They are always at or near capacity, which tells me two things: 1) their patient to caregiver/nurse ratios are lower than most similar facilities (closer personal attention, love), and 2) communities who already know about Sun Mar make sure their loved ones (and the loved ones of friends) go here when they need help. If you are lucky to secure a spot here, your loved one will be in excellent hands. Jun, Andy, Lucy/Julie, Michael, and the activities director always were outstanding and after multiple stays, they have somehow elevated their care and service for my mom and me. The new social worker Ann is super sweet and helpful. Even the quality of food has gotten better! This place is the best hands-down, and the entire staff are life-savers (quite literally).

My mother has been at this nursing home since 2022 and has recently passed away. During her time here, she received great care from all the staff. They were very nice and friendly to her and were attentive. Every time I visited her, the nurses and staff knew who I was and listened to me about any concerns. The nurses' communication was very good when reporting to me about any changes in my mother's care. I will always remember the utmost care she received, and my mother knew that as well. I will recommend Sun Mar Nursing Center to anyone I know.

My mom was admitted to Sun Mar Nursing Center after suffering a stroke. It was a very difficult time for my mom and our entire family. Her goal was to get better and return home as soon as possible. Thanks to the team at Sun Mar, my mom is now home. I want to thank the Sun Mar team: admissions, nursing, house-keeping, social services, kitchen, physical/ Speech therapy, and activities for making my mom's stay as welcoming and pleasant as possible during challenging times.

I don't post reviews, but I had to share my experience with Sun Mar Nursing so that everyone can see just how amazing they are. My mom stayed at Sun Mar from August to September 2024, and from the moment we walked in until the day she was discharged, she was treated with kindness, respect, and exceptional care. A special thank you to Andy, June, and Julie, you were all incredibly supportive and went above and beyond to make sure my mom was comfortable and well taken care of. Even though my mom doesn't speak English fluently, the staff made sure she was always understood and cared for. Despite not being Asian and the facility primarily serving Asian cuisine, the dietitian team took the extra step to accommodate her dietary needs, even ordering special items just to help her stay healthy. That level of dedication and thoughtfulness meant the world to us! What also stood out was the office personnel, "June, Julie, and Andy", who would regularly check in on my mom just to see if she needed anything. That extra level of care and attention reassured us that she was truly in good hands. Every nurse who helped my mom, I wish I could remember all their names, was kind, patient, and attentive. The physical therapy team( Daisy, Mike, Jasper, Christine, one more PT that can't remember her name) were also incredible, helping her recover quickly with their encouragement and expertise. Even if you are not from the Asian community, Sun Mar Nursing will still make you feel welcomed and cared for. They treat every patient with the same high level of compassion and dedication. I highly recommend them to anyone in need of quality nursing care. Thank you again, June, Julie, Andy, and the entire Sun Mar team. My mom and I are beyond grateful for everything you did to help her regain her strength and return to her normal life. Your kindness and dedication will never be forgotten!

This is a nursing facility serving Korean patients. They serve Korean food and many activities are conducted in Korean. The rooms are average but you can't beat the service. The staff are friendly, helpful and hardworking. Even the non-Korean staff have learned to speak Korean, which is impressive! My father has been staying here for over 4 weeks and my family knows that he's in good hands.

We were very pleased with the exceptional staff, immaculate facilities, and the caring environment at Sun Mar. This was our second experience having our mother there for rehabilitation. Jun Park, the admission director, ensured a smooth and comfortable admission process on both occasions. Navigating decisions for an elderly parent can be challenging, but Jun's clear communication and support allowed us to settle our mother in quickly and efficiently. We are truly grateful to have our mother in a place we can trust like Sun Mar. Highly recommend!

Thanks to friendly loving care from Sun Mar Nursing, My mother in law is now slowly walking by herself. She has suffered from a minor stroke this year and she wasn't able to sit by herself. The facility was very clean and the staff genuinely cared about her physical disability. I was always updated on her condition or needs which helped me feel she was well taken care of. I am so very grateful for the care they gave my mother in law. My sincere thanks to the administrator, director, Physical therapist and all nurses. Thank You So much!!!

To this day, I firmly believe Sun Mar saved my mom's life. Jun and Andy are awesome guys, and they are knowledgeable with excellent communication skills. They also have a big heart for each and every patient. Shyla is the kindest social worker you will ever meet. She never stops to look out for patients' safety, specific care, and financial/insurance implications, even after discharge! Head nurse Lucy is on top of everything and somehow balances everyone's needs with a personal, compassionate touch. Michael the director of rehab is engaged, transparent, and carries great positive energy. The activities director is super sweet and does an outstanding job. The culture at Sun Mar is like a family. Not everything is perfect but I would entrust my loved ones' lives with the Sun Mar team any day of the week. Thanks guys, will never forget what you did for my mom. Keep up the incredible things you're doing for those in need!

My Dad came to this facility after having a stroke and needed to stay three months for rehabilitation. After searching for the best place for him, this facility met all the needs. This place was clean and they have caring nurses and staff, daily activities and he was well-groomed. Foods are well prepared for each patient's needs and nutritionally balanced. They give you updated reports on how the patient is doing and give medication as prescribed by doctors. My family is pretty happy and grateful to have found this place. :-)

I would like to thank everyone at Sun Mar for taking care of my mother during her recovery. My mother was in a car accident and had a fracture in her neck and had to receive surgery, since my parents were old and it would have been difficult for my father to care for her, the team at UCI medical recommended she be admitted to a nursing home. At first everyone was skeptical that she would be okay at a nursing home, but the staff reassured us she would be fine. At the end of her stay, she actually didn't want to go home saying she was being treated so well, everyone was so nice and always there for her, facility had great food, morning sermons, friendly co-occupants, I had to convince her that dad was getting lonely without her. God bless the caretakers and everyone at Sun Mar, they all deserve more than just 5 stars.

I truly cannot say enough great things about this place. My mom had a back surgery and needed full care/rehab after her surgery. Living far away in another state, it was a tough decision trying to select the best rehab nursing facility. Thank goodness we made this choice. I called them, Shanon was very professional and super inviting. The whole staff welcomed my mom with such warmth, accommodation and hospitality. They checked on her quite often to make sure that she is enjoying her stay, the food was to her liking. my mom enjoyed the food there. The rehab staff are super! Facility is Very clean, and very responsive. Overall, absolutely excellent nursing facility. Thank you Sun Mar nursing home for taking good care of my mom and putting my mind to ease while I am thousands of miles away :-)

This facility is so Amazing!! My mother was transferred from San Francisco to Sun Mar to physically get back on her 2 feet. While I was in SF with my mother… Sunny was sweet enough to handle all the necessary paperwork yo get the process going so that my mother could transfer in. We arrived late Sunday evening and every staff members just greeted my mother with a warm smile and a great big hug!! Talk about AMAZING!!! Who would expect this from a nursing home???!!! This place is spic and span… extremely helpful with anything you need and to top it off… my mother was fond of their menu !! Today she's at home with us after working with Sun Mar's incredible therapist . She's able to get herself around in the house but won't stop mentioning how she misses everyone at the facility!! I really would like to give this place more than 5 stars.. but I guess this is my limit.

My father came here after having a triple bypass heart operation and being on a ventilator for a combined total of 3 weeks(one week before the operation and two weeks after). He couldn't walk when he got there, but the staff took such good care of him and got him standing and walking again. Thank you so very, very much to everyone who works there! You all did such an amazing job and treated him and us with such kindness.

Andy is a great helper with clear communication and prompt call backs. He helped my auntie to be admitted to their facility. She's been there for three weeks now and says the place is 'clean, friendly and great therapy practices'. The staff is very friendly and always welcoming.

Sun Mar Nursing Center – Always nice when you have a wonderful experience to post about! This past week, while visiting a friend of mine, their social services professional, was more than accommodating and helpful in providing us with a variety of solutions before discharging my friend home. I felt she truly cared with a genuine heart!

Sun Mar is a very warm, caring nursing clinic. My Mom was there for two months, recovering from a fall. She was very appreciative of the attentive staff. The rehab team was great. They performed excellent rehabilitation services and were extremely encouraging. Thank you Sun Mar!

My wife's mother and grandmother both came here for rehab. The care was great and the place was very clean! The staff are so caring and like family…great environment to be in when it was their first time at a nursing home. They felt very comfortable. Also, they loved the fact that asian food was served daily. Thank you Sun Mar!
