DePaul Properties, Inc. provides a variety of different affordable housing options. Our primary types of housing include multifamily and special needs housing for people who are Deaf, people with vision concerns, people who were formerly homeless and people with physical disabilities and mental health needs.

Do you have any available apartments?

DePaul Properties, Inc. is continually filling vacancies at all of its apartment buildings. We maintain a wait list for vacant units. You must have an application on file in order to be eligible for an apartment.

Question 3

How long does it take to get an apartment?

Accepted Answer

Once you have completed and submitted an application, your name will be placed on the wait list for all the buildings for which you indicated a preference. Since there is no way to anticipate how quickly vacancies will occur, there is no way to tell you exactly how long this process will take. However, we encourage you to apply since we tend to move quickly through the applications we have received. All applications are reviewed for eligibility and applicants will be notified of their status by mail. Applicants will be asked to participate in at least two interviews. At the time of the interviews, DePaul Properties, Inc. will review your financial, credit, housing, criminal and employment histories. Please be aware that acceptance for our housing is based on all of these criteria. Please see the General Rental and Occupancy Criteria Guidelines for additional information on how applicants are accepted for our housing. All applications are thoroughly reviewed on a case-by-case basis. At no point in the application process are you guaranteed an apartment until you have signed a lease and received the keys.

If I make more than the maximum, can I still qualify for housing?

DePaul Properties. Inc. follows federally mandated guidelines to determine income eligibility for housing at our buildings. If you earn more than our maximum at the time of application, you are not eligible to be a tenant and we cannot offer you housing at this time.

On your application, it states that assets must be evaluated to determine eligibility. Is there a limit to the amount I can hold in assets?

Accepted Answer

No. There is effectively no limit to the amount you can hold in assets. However, we are required to add the income earned or a percentage of the value of those assets to your annual income. If you are close to our maximum income, this may affect your eligibility for housing.

Is my parent ready to enter a senior living community?

Choosing assisted living can be challenging for older adults, especially if they are accustomed to being independent and maintaining their own homes. The decision can be just as hard for the children of aging parents as it is for the parents. It’s easy for adult children to overlook signs of decline in their parents. Is your parent telling you that they are eating, but you’re seeing food spoil in the refrigerator? Have you seen your parent wearing the same clothes when you go to visit? Is your parent able to take medications correctly? When you look around the house or yard, is it as neat and clean as it used to be? When you really look at your parent, do you see the bright and vibrant person from years ago, or do you see a more limited person who needs some help? If you answered yes to some of these questions, your parent may be ready for assisted living.

DePaul Senior Living Communities are licensed adult homes that provide long- and short-term residential care, private and semi-private rooms, 24-hour access to staff, three nutritious meals per day, housekeeping, laundry and personal care services and a full range of planned activities and outings, as well as other amenities.

What's the process for admission to a DePaul Senior Living Community?

DePaul offers Senior Living Communities in Western New York. We welcome you to come in for a tour, join us for a meal, and spend some time getting to know our staff and residents. Becoming a resident begins by completing an application. Regulations also require a physical be performed by the potential resident’s primary care physician. Each DePaul Senior Living Community performs its own evaluation as well.

Who can make a referral to a DePaul residential mental health program?

Accepted Answer

DePaul is part of community-wide mental health treatment and rehabilitation systems in the counties in which we have a presence. Individuals must be actively involved in treatment to be considered for residency in a DePaul residential mental health program. Referrals are typically made by a treatment professional including psychiatrists, therapists, or social workers from a hospital-based inpatient mental health facility or outpatient program but families and potential residents can also begin the referral process.

Do families and clients participate in the referral process?

Families and clients are encouraged to be active participants in making this important decision. Both are encouraged to learn more about DePaul’s services, program expectations, and sites to see how each best match the interests of the client prior to a formal referral. DePaul may be recommended by a community service provider, however, the client needs to make the commitment to entering and engaging in the program. It’s therefore vital that the client visit the program and meet with staff members and other clients so they may make an informed decision.

How do you pay for residential mental health services?

At DePaul, residential mental health services are paid by government funding through client fees from County Department of Social Services, Social Security, and for some programs, Medicaid. Employed clients pay a fee based on their monthly income. Families who have assumed financial responsibility for their relative receiving services pay a fee based on their individual circumstances.

How is someone referred to WorkGuide?

Individuals need to have an open case with Adult Career and Continuing Education Services – Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR, formerly known as VESID) and then ACCES-VR completes the referral to WorkGuide. ACCES-VR holds Orientation Sessions every Thursday from 10:00 am and 1:15 pm (American Sign Language interpreter is available at the 1:15 session). ACCES-VR is located at 109 S. What populations does WorkGuide provide services to?

WorkGuide’s Supported Employment Program provides services to individuals with a documented mental health diagnosis or learning disability as well as individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing. The Transitional Employment Program provides services to individuals with a documented disability through ACCES-VR.

Who is eligible for care management?

Individuals with a serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI) diagnosis who have current active Medicaid Individuals with a chronic health issue (examples: diabetes, heart disease, COPD) Individuals who are able to identify goals and are willing to be part of the program Individuals who are not already enrolled in a similar program through another organization The final step in determining whether to enroll a member in a Health Home is to determine appropriateness for Health Home services. Simply meeting Medicaid eligibility and qualifying conditions is not sufficient to confirm appropriateness for Health Home enrollment. For example, an individual can have two chronic conditions and be managing their own care effectively thereby not requiring health home care management assistance. To qualify for enrollment and ongoing care management services under health home, an individual must be assessed and found to have significant behavioral, medical, or social risk factors that require the intensive level of Care Management services provided by the Health Home Program.

How are new clients enrolled in care management?

Individuals who are living in a DePaul residential mental health program may be referred by speaking with a care manager about a potential client’s need for services, and how they may benefit from the program. The care manager will review the client’s chart and complete a referral. Referrals must be approved by the county.
