Westwind Memory Care

I toured Westwind Memory Care. They had a lot of activities. There was a lot going on that was interesting for the people. Like they had flower arranging going on, and people were flower arranging, and then in another room they had a cultural event that was going on the television, like a symphony or something, and I thought those were nice. I think that would be entertaining for my husband. He could sit and listen to the music or he could participate in some sort of craft like that. I thought that was nice because that was more than what was happening in the smaller places. The room looked nice. Each had their own bathroom. And then they explained to me that if he shared, it would be a little less expensive, also if he chose a room that was next to some kind of heating system or something in the building that makes a worrying noise that bothers some people, but because he has hearing loss of 75 percent, that it would be acceptable to place him there, so that would be a way if he could get one of those rooms, that it would be a little less expensive. But then they warned me that the prices were going to go up after the New Year because of inflation and everything. So it's quite pricey, and that's one of the factors I'm looking at since we're paying for it out of pocket, and we don't have any long-term care insurance. However, it was overall positive. It was good. If money were no object, it would be an appropriate place. The person who took me around was fine. I had an appointment with a different person, but he didn't show up, so she stepped in at the last minute, because apparently he had forgotten. They looked for somebody to give me a tour, and so she came. She wasn't quite prepared, but she still gave me a good tour. The place was very clean. There were no odors or scents that were unpleasant, and the layout was nice. It's specifically designed for memory care patients, so it's like two different areas, but they're both similar in how they're laid out.

My mom moved into Westwind Memory Care. We chose it because it just seemed like it had the right kind of environment and a smaller amount of people that live there together. One of the things we like about them as well, is the staff. They're friendly and helpful. They seem like they enjoy their jobs and that they kind of cared about the people that live there. My mom loves the food. I've had meals there and the food is delicious. They have a whole activity scheduled. They have lots of stuff they do. The facility is brand new, maybe four or five years old. It's very clean, very nice, and very open. The value for the money seems good and we're happy with it.

My aunt has been living in Westwind Memory Care for more than a month now. She's very content and happy with the place. It's a very nice and new community with a nice layout, and she has her own individual apartment space with a bathroom. She pays a little bit more than in other places but the prices are not very bad. The staff has been very fine, and we're very happy with them. We feel like they do a lot to keep their residents entertained, they give them things to do and keep the place fairly lively. So we're very pleased that we have found it. My aunt doesn't really need tremendous care but the extra care is there if my aunt needs it, but they kind of let her be. It's a nice place and we felt that they're outstanding so we're glad to have a room. Her room is more like a studio with a full bath but no kitchen facility. They have a general kitchen area and they can have snacks whenever they like, they just have to ask. They also get their meals prepared 3 times a day. They have entertainment there and music, and the staff goes out of their way to plan activities and things and try to keep the residents stimulated. It's a very secure community. My aunt even said that she is not happy with her condition but she's very content. The staff was really helpful, courteous and friendly and they do their job even though they have lots of things juggling all the time. They may not be able to stop and hold your hand every time, but they are very kind and you could see that they do their job with kindness and respect. The food is prepared with concern but it's basically just a meal, not like when you go out to a restaurant.

Westwind Memory Care was really new and nice. It was a good place. The staff was super competent and nice, and the rooms were brand new. They didn't have an outside area that people could walk around in which was one of the drawbacks, but they had a lot of outside activities that came in.

Westwind Memory Care was fabulous, but I could not afford it. It was beautiful and brand new, so everything was fresh and clean. The activities seemed really engaging and good for their mind and brain activity. They did cooking with the residents. It looked like a wonderful place. There was a lot of room for residents to walk around and mingle with each other.

Westwind Memory Care is a very good place. I'm very happy with Mom being there. They're taking good care of her. It's a new place that's very well laid out and designed. They have good staffing who are very close to the people. There are no long hallways.

I spent three hours on Sunday this past weekend with Ricardo De La Cruz, Community Relations Coordinator at West Wind Memory Care in Santa Cruz, touring the facility, meeting staff and residents, observing resident rooms, dining and gathering areas, laundry, and kitchen areas, etc. The facility is immaculate, serene, warm, friendly, uncluttered, and inviting. Doors were open to (securely fenced) outdoor patio and garden areas, where residents were free to walk, enjoy the fresh air & sun, or sit and visit with relatives or guests. I am considering West Wind for an elder family member who is cognitively & physically disabled, who needs the kind of care that West Wind provides. My experience at West Wind left me impressed with the overall "good vibe." Staff & residents were friendly, all my questions were answered fully, I was given extensive access to both the of the two floors. Security aspects seemed very good. There were many staff members about, there were activities in progress for residents, including games, art, and table puzzles. I am unable to understand why West Wind has so many harshly critical reviews on Yelp, especially ones referring to dirt, spiders, mold, and general uncleanliness---I saw none of this kind of thing. Not even a speck of dust or lint or dirt or clutter! I saw no hint of mistreatment or neglect of residents. These negative reviews do produce cognitive dissonance in prospective clients' families. But my experience was very positive. I do like that the appropriate staff person responds to every Yelp review, both positive and negative. My family is seriously considering West Wind as an excellent option for our elder.

This is the best place in santa cruz county. Ricardo was very helpful and accommodating. Its a beautiful building that borders a natural area with great views. The staff makes sure everybody gets dressed and gets them out so they dont languish in there rooms. No complaints from me, and im a notorious complainer.

What a lovely space. I was pleasantly surprised when visiting a relative. I was expecting something completely different. The staff were inviting and the people who lived there looked well taken of. The home is new, clean and nicely decorated. Snacks were being served and they actually looked really good. The fresh fruit looked amazing I thought I would just feel bad after leaving but I felt good about what I saw and know she is happy.

Anytime I visit Westwind, I can see the compassion that the staff members have for each and every resident. I'm sure caring for this population is tricky but the staff seem to be well trained on how to care for those with Dementia and how to manage the behaviors that come along with it. It truly feels like a home when you are in this community. The staff members are always very welcoming and helpful and the food is delicious! Kudos to the chef for putting together such tasty and healthy meals for their residents while also accommodating for special diets and restrictions.

I have seen nothing but hard working and caring staff at Westwind. The staff is kind and always willing to go the extra mile.The building is clean and well maintained.

Caring staff. Good housekeeping. Sometimes communication could be better. Overall, I would recommend Westwind Memory Care to others.

The staff members at Westwind just love my husband, he loves to dance and whenever the music comes on the ladies will come up and dance with him. We really appreciate all the interaction the residents and staff. It is a really nice big open area where our loved one can gather with everyone. The residents an wander all the way around the community safely. Everybody's room is along the outside walls. The center is open with a big sitting area and T.V. His room is always nice and clean, bed is always made and bathroom nice and clean. It is a lot of money each month but it is definitely worth it to be at ease. We can visit anytime or take him out for a walk anytime - we cannot say enough great things about Westwind, it is the perfect place for him.

They are very family oriented community. The staff and the residents are very friendly and caring. The caregivers are really good. The food is good and it is healthy. I visited twelve communities, and I chose this community because it gave me a feeling of comfort with both the residents and the staff. The facility is newer and everything is modern, clean, and nice. They offer a lot of activities. They don't let the residents just sit in their rooms, they get them engaged. I would recommend this community to other families.

Westwind is the BEST memory care facility I have ever seen. We needed to move our elderly aunt from her home because 24/7 care is VERY pricey and we needed to get her closer to family. We were so thrilled when we discovered Westwind. The building is gorgeous and the staff is very knowledgeable and attentive. They helped us with the transition and even worked as advocates for us when a certain medical group who shall remain nameless was lagging on her medical records. I can sleep at night knowing we placed our aunt in a safe and caring environment. She loves the activities and we enjoy visiting. We are very grateful to have found Westwind!
